Prescription of Medicine

FITDOC has a strict prescribing policy to ensure the safe practice of medication at all times by doctors as detailed below.

  1. Patient Assessment: Doctors shall gather and assess the general condition of the patient as much and as completely as possible before making a prescription.

  2. Safe and Ethical Prescribing: Doctors shall prescribe safely and practice ethically at all times.

  3. Valid and Complete Prescriptions: Doctors shall ensure that their prescription is valid and complete with patient’s details (Full name as per IC, IC number, Address, Medical History, and Allergy History).

  4. Referral to Physical Doctor: Doctors shall refer the patient to a physical doctor if the patient has any red flags, or develops any acute conditions.

  5. Emergency Conditions: Doctors shall not prescribe medications to treat acute or emergency conditions as the role of telemedicine is not to manage emergency conditions.

  6. Prescription Duration: If chronic medications are to be prescribed for a top-up, a maximum of 3 months duration can be prescribed.

  7. Patient Follow-Up: In the event that the patient has not seen a physical doctor for a duration of more than 3 months, doctors shall refer the patient to a physical doctor and NOT continue prescribing.

Dispensation Policy by FITDOC

FITDOC operates as a telemedicine platform facilitating connections between the general public and Ministry of Health (MOH)-qualified healthcare providers (HCPs), including doctors and pharmacists. Committed to enhancing the health and well-being of individuals, FITDOC prioritises proper medication usage and patient safety. To this end, this dispensation policy is implemented to safeguard our patients and elevate the overall dispensing experience for our customers.

Aligned with good governance principles outlined in the Framework for Good Governance 2009 by the MOH, Malaysia, FITDOC ensures strict and ethical delivery of healthcare and medication services. Medications dispensed through FITDOC adhere to the Guide to Good Dispensing Practice 2016 by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia at all times. This commitment ensures all our patients receive medications accurately, minimising adverse reactions, and preventing medication errors.

Classification of Medication Dispensed by FITDOC

Medication prescribed and dispensed by HCPs abide by The Malaysia Poisons Act 1952 (Act 366). The Malaysia Poisons Act 1952 (Act 366) regulates the importation, possession, manufacture, compounding, storage, transport, sale, and utilisation of poisons by medical practitioners, dentists, veterinarians, manufacturers, distributors, and retail establishments. 

1. Group B Medication

This group includes medications that require a valid prescription certified by an MMC-registered physician for dispensation. A valid prescription must include the prescriber's signature, address, and date, as well as the patient's name, identification number, address, prescribed dose, quantity, and instructions for medication use. These requirements are mandated by the Laws of Malaysia Poison Act 1952 Regulation 21, 2006.

The digital prescriptions issued by FITDOC are digitally signed by the prescriber and contain all mandated information.

Examples of Group B medication prescribed and dispensed by FITDOC: Sildenafil, Tadalafil, Tenofovir/ Emtricitabine, Liraglutide, Semaglutide

2. Group C Medication

This group comprises medications that require recording of the patient's personal information for dispensation. Required patient information includes name, address, prescribed medication name, dose, quantity supplied, and date of purchase, as mandated by the Laws of Malaysia Poison Act 1952 Regulation 24, 2006.

3. Over-the-Counter (OTC) drugs

This group includes medications that do not require an e-prescription and can be sold over the counter. Medications in this group must be registered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA), as mandated by the Drug Registration Guidance Document by NPRA, 2016.

Partner Pharmacy

Our medications are supplied by partner community pharmacies, staffed with pharmacists that hold registered Type A Poison Licences where we are able to import, store, and deal generally by wholesale or retail, as mandated by Laws of Malaysia Poison Act 1952 Regulation 26, 1952. In accordance with Laws of Malaysia Poison Act 1952 Regulation 24, 2006, medications will not be sold to any person under eighteen years of age, otherwise than for purposes of the medical treatment of such person.
